Haiti has been devastated by a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the largest to strike the Caribbean nation in over 200 years. Buildings have collapsed, thousands have died, and hundreds of thousands are still missing. The Red Cross estimates the quake has affected over 3 million people.
Haiti is one of the poorest and most densely-populated countries in the Western Hemisphere. In addition to this devastating earthquake, Haiti has struggled to overcome the effects of a multitude of natural disasters in the last 6 years including hurricanes, tropical storms, and floods that have killed thousands and resulted in over a billion dollars in damage and lost crops. The earthquake, compounding the problems of an insufficient infrastructure, has left millions without access to safe drinking water.
In response to this disaster, SURGE is working with local partners to send relief. Food, water, shelter and medicine are the immediate priorities for
those who have survived this catastrophe.
Your donations will be used to purchase and deliver water purification filters to alleviate the emergency and provide an ongoing, sustainable solution.
