SURGE has brought clean water to thousands of people around the world. Our projects touched hundreds of families; including women and children in Haiti, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, and Tanzania. Our directed funds built fresh water wells, manufactured filters that provide clean water, and built sanitation systems.
100% of donations directly benefit the cause. We only partner with charities that guarantee all funds go towards direct costs. This is made possible by our partners, sponsors, private donors, and volunteers who help with our administrative costs.
SURGE is working with our local partner to bring clean water to Haiti. Your donations will be used to purchase and deliver water purification filters to alleviate the emergency and provide an ongoing, sustainable solution. With the use of these filters rain and river water can be purified immediately for human consumption. Every $30 provides 1 filter and saves 7 lives! Learn more or Donate.
Ethiopia is one of the five poorest countries in the world, with 4 out of every 5 people living on less than $2 a day. Access to safe drinking water in Ethiopia is at a critically low level. Waterborne diseases claim the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each year. 1 Ethiopian child in 10 dies before their fifth birthday; half of those die from diarrhea.
SURGE worked with local partners to build a hand dug fresh water well in the Tigray region in Ethiopia. One freshwater well gives a community of 250 people clean, safe drinking water for 20 years.
Hand-dug wells are possible in areas with a high water table. The opening takes 1-3 months to dig, and the entire community usually participates. Because of the free labor force within the villages, hand-dug wells are the most cost-effective and are implemented whenever possible.
SURGE worked with our local partner to construct Water Sanitation systems for the Gazipur district under the Dhaka division of Bangladesh. Approximately 56,000 households with 267,000+ people inhabit the area. The inhabitants are poor even by Bangladeshi standards, and household income is significantly below the national average of $150/month. High prevalence of water-borne disease causes vulnerability to frequent ailments year-round.
Today 2.5 billion people, including almost 1 billion children, live without even basic sanitation. Every 20 seconds, a child dies as a result of poor sanitation. That’s 1.5 million preventable deaths each year. SURGE efforts helped prevent some of these deaths.
Water filters were sent to a school in the mountains of Jarabacoa. This initiative was part of a wonderful Christmas program where SURGE enabled the manufacturing and distribution of filters to children from extremely poor families. Through this work, hundreds of families afflicted with extreme poverty will now have access to clean, safe water.
Water filters provide an effective, sustainable and accessible point of use method to bring clean water to those most in need. Various sources of water can be purified immediately for consumption and alleviate some of this global crisis.
SURGE provided water filtration systems that brought clean water to two orphanages in remote areas of the country. Most of these children were orphaned as their parents fell victim to AIDS.
Excerpt from field testimonial:
“I greet you …and.I hope that you are very fine, I am fine …. i am happy to hear your good news and to know that you are excited in helping orphans. Really back here in Tanzania there is small amount of people who wish to help orphans ….i have accepted it from my heart …and i will work on it with whole heart. It a very good to save peoples life by filtering water and drinking pure and safe water.I am very happy till crying because GOD has done a miracle to help orphans.I have been fasting for help to be given to orphans and now GOD is telling me everything i wished for is right here.. so I pray for one thing, that your love grows more and more .’’
